Microsorum pteropus (Java Fern)

Microsorum pteropus is a water fern from Asia that typically grows between 15-30 cm tall. It is a hardy, rhizomatous plant that grows in a wide range of conditions with low light and CO2 demands. It is best grown attached to a root or stone using fishing line until it gains a hold; if planted in the substrate, the rhizome must remain uncovered to prevent rotting. The plant features a slow growth rate and is easy to propagate by splitting the horizontal rhizome. Black spots found under the leaves are sporangia (reproductive organs) and are a natural characteristic of the plant.
